HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Years ago I read that we should not treat Martin Luther King day as a holiday--we should go to church, do volunteer work etc. I said if there were ever a Jane Hautanen Day people should be able to do whatever the fuck they want--have a party, go the beach, the mall, get drunk, get high, get laid, stare into space or just sleep if they wanted.

A couple years ago Facebook friend made a remark about how we should not wish people Happy Memorial Day--men and women did not give their lives so we could buy a mattress. So Saturday I told my supervisor to have a solemn and somber Memorial Day. His answer was "no, I 'm gonna have a Jane Hautanen kind of day--fuck it."

POSITIVE NEWS

My mother and everyone in her building have tested negative for the Coronarivus.

SHELTERING IN PLACE

A term I am coming to hate. Most people in favour of waiting to re-open the country until a vaccine or cure for the Coronavirus is found either have nothing to worry about financially or have never experienced a profound financial loss--their job, their career, their business and/or their home.

FLASH IN THE TRAIN

SERIOUSLY, IF YOU THINK YOU’RE BEING FOLLOWED, GET AWAY AND TELL SOMEONE. DON’T WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE THINKING YOU’RE PARANOID, A RACIST ETC. MY LIFE WOULD BE A LOT DIFFERENT IF I HAD DONE THAT SEVEN YEARS AGO.

MARCH SADNESS

FROM ONE OF MY TWITTER FOLLOWERS

BACK IN THE USSR

There is a Safeway in Northwest D.C. known as the “Soviet Safeway” because of its long lines, empty shelves and rude staff. Now the whole city, heck, the whole country, looks like that:

THE LUCKY ONE

I have been lucky in that the Coronavirus hysteria has not affected me too much. The main thing is that almost everything opens later and closes earlier so I have to get up earlier and get home later. And pay more for Ubers because trains stop running at nine and busses at eleven. And there is no more Uber Pool or Express which is not always a bad thing.

HOW’S THAT WORKING?

PEOPLE MOST AFFECTED BY THE QUARANTINE

Very old people
People with preexisting medical conditions
Poor people (let’s not mince words and call them “low income” or “economically marginalized”
People who work at night
People who rely on mass transit
People with poor or no phone/internet connectivity

BORED

For weeks I have seen social media posts from people who complain about how bored they are. For those who lost their jobs, were furloughed etc I feel sorry for them but for the rest of them I posted this on Facebook and Twitter:

janedoe@seductive.com

TRAIN, TRAIN

The brilliant people who decided to close the churches, libraries and fast food restaurants seemed to forget that’s where homeless people hang out. So now they hang out in bus and train stations or in busses and trains themselves. One morning a guy refused to get off the bus even though it was the end of the line.

WHO WAS THAT MASKED WOMAN?

A Facebook friend suggested I make this into my profile pic so I did. She also said I look like Hot Lips on M*A*S*H. Loretta Switt IS Polish...

Now that the Coronavirus is in fashion I wonder how many people have forgotten they’re allergic to gluten, lactose intolerant, hypoglycemic or have the Epstein-Barr virus...

THESE LOOK LIKE SMART BEES!

Remember the killer bees?

IT’S FIVE O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE

He was abusive.

A GOOD THING ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS:

It took the attention away from these two:

I DON’T HAVE THE CORONAVIRUS

Honestly, If I had any thought I was positive I would not have posted on social media until I was 100% sure.

IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT

Got a letter from employment services.

YEP:

I GOT A NOTE

So I have a note from Homeland Security giving me permission to be on the street. But there is no picture, date of birth, Social Security number etc. It might as well say “please allow Jane on the street, bus, train etc., signed Homeland Security.”

THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR

Since I posted on Facebook that I had been tested for the Coronavirus people have been frantically contacting my boss so he texted me. Nice.

Two people in the other building where I work have tested positive but one was a visitor and I doubt I had contact to the other one.

HE WROTE ME A LETTER

Because I work in an “essential” industry I have a letter from Homeland Security saying I am allowed on the street. So far I have not needed to show it but I carry it everywhere.

THE QUEEN’S SPEECH

This was actually in April--a rare address for her.

KEEPING IT MORE REAL

KEEPING IT REAL

TODAY IS MOTHER’S DAY

My 89-year-old mother is in an assisted living  over 900 miles away.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

I know this is old news—I am mainly saving this for posterity:

FLATTENING THE CURVE

The idea was to keep people at home and off the streets as much as possible so we don’t overstress our healthcare system the way Italy did:

People are still getting sick and dying, just at a more manageable rate.

SCHRÖDINGER’S VIRUS

SCHRÖDINGER’S CAT

WHAT HAPPENED

For those of you who have been living in a cave only “essential” businesses are allowed to remain open, mine being one of them. Until we lost so much advertising revenue we had to furlough people. I’ve been luckier than most and except for about five hours one night in March the last time I had any time off was to visit my mother in February, which does not a vacation make.

WHERE THIS STUFF COMES FROM

All content is either created my me, used with permission or common knowledge/public domain, ie snagged off the Internet by web searches, social media etc. In all the years I’ve been blogging only one person has asked me to remove a picture they posted.

You can see more posts on www.facebook.com/snipercatcher and www.twitter.com/snipercatcher .

FURLOUGHED

I've been furloughed because of the Coronavirus.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS OR PICK YOUR PASSION

Pick a poem
Pick a poet
Pick a plight

Pick a plane

Or bus or train or
Pick a flight

Pick a school a job apartment

Pick a car
Pick a wish a hope a dream or pick a star

Pick a country, pick a city

What you will

Pick a problem

Pick a poison
Pick a thrill

Pick a doctor,

Pick a nurse
Or pick a pill

Pick a number,

Pick a letter does it matter?
Might as well pick pennies, pitch 'em in the water.

I saw at least one poetry open mic online. Couldn't find any of my old ones so made up a new one.
