June is Adopt-A-Cat month. The Alexandria shelter, from whence cometh my beloved Pippin and Baby Pandora, is holding its annual Feline Follies.

WEEK 26

Boy, this week went by fast. I still need to learn it's okay to bill for services rendered and to charge an appropriate fee. And to say "no" to obvious scumbags. But both take courage.

George Carlin died a couple days ago. I really liked him -- personally and professionally. So many times I feel like saying "forecast for tonight -- dark."

And it was because of him that my dashboard Jesus looks out into traffic and not at me. Although being omniscient he could sees everything anyway.

This is going to be a killer weekend -- the opportunity for about twelve hours sleep out of sixty, starting at noon Friday and ending at midnight Monday.

Cooler weather, lighter traffic and everything where it should be.

WEEK 24

As the Portuguese say, Too many tides and not enough sailors. There was supposed to be a pool party Saturday but I never heard more about it and I turned down the opportunity to do about four hours of chair massage at RFK Stadium. Then I found out it was supposed to be outside. In 80+ degree heat yet. And two people are off at one of my jobs yet in this time of massive unemployment we can’t find anyone to fill in.

So I said “yes” to this Lifetime TV thing which was a real bust, but I figure at least it was a mitzvah. And maybe it will bring some people to my web site.

Tim Russert also died this week. I was probably about a mile away at the time. He was pronounced dead at the hospital where I was born. And I went to his doctor once I think (he was my doctor’s partner). I think the last time I saw Russert alive was at Starbucks across from WTOP. I think years ago I wrote him a letter asking for a job.

So what have I learned this week? The importance of good health (not mine). Especially dental health. And good nutrition. And the sweetness of time spent at home, with family, friends and pets. Ironic that I went back to school and worked my bottom off for more of that, yet I’m more tired and strung-out than ever.

And I learned that the healing process is a slow one .

What a week.

Bad economic news, a tornado that killed someone in Annandale. I used to go on that road all the time.

Time at the cardiologist’s and the vet’s.

But I DID have an A-ha moment. I do not have to massage everyone in the Greater Washington area. It is okay to not respond to the guy who obviously wants a hand job, the girl who is so spacey she is not gonna keep an appointment or the foreigner whose comprehension of English is so poor he won’t be able to understand my directions to the studio.
