TOO BAD THERE IS NO LITTLE WOMEN: DC

But I am too tall anyway:

Today is the feast of St. Martha

My parents were married in St. Martha's Church: http://catholicexchange.com/st-martha

DOUBLE FEATURE

Saw Paper Towns with K. Kind of like Superbad Lite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Dv0rOjEVIw

Really Cara Delevingne reminded me of Emma Stone, or at least her voice is. Lots on the Internet about Delevingne’s eyebrows, also about her character. The movie begins with the idea that we may not marry royalty or win the lottery but that we will still have all kinds of adventures.

First of all, there’s the name “Roth Spiegelman.” Is she supposed to be Jewish? She looks more Asian, kind of like Emma Stone, who isn’t Asian, either. Margo Roth Spiegelman talks childhood friend Quentin into a night of petty, mean-spirited pranks to which he stupidly agrees. These kids live in Florida, which sucks enough—understandable why Margo is so resentful and wants to leave it. After her night of “fun” Margo disappears and her family is not too worried—she’s done it before as a ploy for attention. So Quentin and his buddies (including Margo’s best friend, Lacey, who was meanly pranked) follow some passive-aggressive clues Margo has left, leading them to Upstate New York. Ironically Q ends up in a town called “Roscoe.” Lacey wisely wonders why they make this trip when they could be doing other things, and whether or not Margo would have done the same for her.

After that I saw Ted 2 at Town Tavern. Lots of tasteless, timely references to September 11th, Robin Williams, Charlie Hebdo and Bill Cosby and all the civil rights bullshit that’s going on now. One of the high points is Amanda Seyfried as the attorney representing Ted after it’s decided he’s not a person. What a transition, from Karen (you are so stupid) in Mean Girls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0PpEoKHlO0 to Cosette in Les Misérables

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maty1iiphNE to a junior attorney representing a bear.

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF SAINTS JOACHIM AND ANNE, OUR LADY'S PARENTS

Legend has it Our Lady didn't come until late in their lives--good things come to those who wait. You would think they would at least have their own feast days: http://catholicexchange.com/saints-joachim-and-anne-parents-of-mary

THIS IS HOW I'M FEELING TODAY

I could barely get out of bed this morning.

"HEADACHES ARE NOT CAUSED BY A DEFICIENCY OF ASPIRIN"

Tom Roselle

A TALE OF TWO COWS

Or in some cases, angels. In this case it is a rabbi with the prophet Elijah: http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/404895/jewish/The-Rabbi-and-the-Cow.htm

THANKS FOR SHARING

It seems everything is sharing--job-sharing, timesharing, filesharing, ridesharing etc.

I wonder if the person who came up with Minions was familiar with the concept of minyans.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD MY ASS WOULD LOOK CUTE IN A SLING

However, I don't think my health plan covers butt slings.

GIVE A CHEER, GIVE A CHEER, FOR THE MEN WHO DRINK THE BEER...

Today is the feast of St. James: http://catholicexchange.com/st-james-apostle

Our unofficial school song was:

"Give a cheer, give a cheer,
For the men who drink the beer
In the cellar of good old St. James

They're so brave, they're so bold,
All the liquor they can hold,
In the cellar, of Good Old, St. James

For it's run, run, run,
I think I hear a nun
Grab all the beer that you can hold

If a nun should appear,
Say sister, have a beer,
In the cellar of good old St. James"

ACCORDING TO THIS SIDE WITH HILARY CLINTON, MARCO RUBIO AND BERNIE SANDERS, BUT NOT NECESSARILY IN THAT ORDER

Still pretty cool, though:  http://www.isidewith.com

FOR ALL THE SAINTS

So many ignorant people accuse us of “worshipping” saints, when we don’t we are asking for their intercession.

But not only that, we also see them as role models—Saint Therese of Lisieux who overcame illness and a bitchy mother superior, St. Bernadette who dealt with the same plus poverty and not being able to read or write until she was at least fourteen.

And at the other end of the spectrum we have St. Thomas Aquinas who was a brilliant man but nicknamed “the dumb ox” because he was so quiet. And Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi who came from wealthy families but forsook that to found their own religious orders, intentionally living lives of poverty. These are just a few examples but you get the point.

TODAY IS NATIONAL HOT FUDGE SUNDAE DAY

I swear Sander's in Michigan makes the world's best hot fudge sauce. I eat it straight out of the can, unheated.

IT WAS A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO THAT I ADOPTED MY BABY BOY PEPINO.

A whole year with no pig deaths.

ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER

A client told me "you don't seem like a bullshitter." Too bad I can't put that on my web page.

NO FUCKS GIVEN

Really, sometimes the comments are even funnier than the videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VN2KRxTdjE&feature=youtu.be

AN OBSERVATION

When you leave yoghurt out of the fridge the foil top bulges. When you open it it makes a "pfft" sound and some of it squirts out. You have to be prepared for it. This falls into the category of "entertain me, my life is dull."

Someone referred to me as "realistic as fuck."

Do jalapenos count as green vegetables?

MARIA MAGDALENA

Maria Magdalena, by Sandra, coupled with Everlasting Lovehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8LHlkew3XY

Before we made our first confession, we heard the story of Mary Magdalene. As I was eight years old, I didn't grasp it all, other than she had done something wrong asked G-d's forgiveness and he gave it to her.

Some people say she was a prostitute, others say she was an adulteress. Others say she may have epilepsy or schizophrenia. I think she might have been a drunk or a druggie or had an eating disorder. Whatever it was, she realized something was wrong with her life and it was hurting her and possibly others. And she was sorry for it and never did it again. A book I read in fifth grade said she spent the rest of her life doing penance for her sins.

I am told they are reviving Bloom County: http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/07/13/422545636/bloom-county-2015-berkeley-breathed-revives-comic-strip

KEEPING (AND EVEN SHARING) THE FAITH

Whether Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim etc the best way to share your faith is through example--generosity, kindness and respect for others, etc: http://catholicexchange.com/when-it-hurts-how-to-share-the-catholic-faith-with-non-catholics

That works a heck of a lot better than lectures, Jesus emails, Facebook posts, tweets etc.

RACISM IS RACISM

There is no such thing as "white racism" or "black racism." Or "reverse discrimination.

THE SWEETEST GIFT

Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone is a quiet ride on the bus. Or on the train. Or in a taxi. Or a quiet drink in a bar or a coffee shop. Or a quiet restaurant meal. Or a  quiet wait in a doctor's/dentist's office. You get the point.
