SOME OLD DUDE LOOKED AT MY IPAD AND SAID "I GUESS YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR HANDS ON THAT THING."

I said "you can also activate it with your nose or your tongue" and proceeded to show him. Reminiscent of the X-Files.

BIGELOW PLANTATION MINT TEA SMELLS LIKE GUM.

Yum.

IS IT SAD THAT I ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION TO CANE SPOTS ON TV?

Especially when I've been off crutches for almost a month?

"A CRAZY GIRL IS NO GREAT PRIZE"

I have been carrying the same Dunkin Donuts cup around for about 40 hours.

THINGS ARE FUCKED UP

In the last ten days I have forgotten my phone once, my purse twice, accidentally called my mom and forgot it, almost walked out of Whole Foods without paying for some corn. Today I got onto the wrong train, called the wrong person to tell him I was coming late and walked into the wrong office. And on the way home I nearly got off at the wrong station.

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

St John the Baptist: The feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist is one of the oldest feasts in the liturgy of the Church. Unlike other saints whose feast days are usually celebrated on the anniversary of their deaths — considered the day they entered into final glory — St. John’s feast day is the day of …

SO SWEET

A guy proposed to his GF in the park and she said yes. It was also a couple hundred feet from the scene of the robbery.

FLOODING IN THE CLEVELAND PARK METRO STATION

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF ST. ALOYSIUS

St. Aloysius Gonzaga, S.J.: St. Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-1591) was a young man who experienced his faith as something more important than the worldly concerns of life. He lived in Renaissance Italy, a time noted for its high cultural achievements and low moral standards. Because he was born of a noble family, Aloysius was very familiar with court life, serving …

They named a church after him. And a school.

RIP Paul Hill, Westwood One operations manager and producer.

SAW THE STRAWBERRY MOON

Last one was in 1967, next one will be in 2062. Didn't look like anything special to me--just another full moons. With all these moons having special designations it makes them seem less special.

I WONDER HOW MANY PREGNANT WOMEN GO INTO PREMATURE LABOUR ON METRO BUSSES/TRAINS.

Not only that, but even in 90+ degree heat some busses didn't have A/C. Or at least not much of it.

She taught history at Immaculata until she was 72, I was thinking of her over the weekend. There are some teachers whom you never forget: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dailylocal/obituary.aspx?n=claire-schultz&pid=180370683&fhid=4453&eid=sp_ommatch

SAW THE MOVIE MRS. WINTERBORN

Ricki Lake says she wants to pay for an attorney for the killer of her abusive ex-boyfriend. Made me think of Omar Mateen’s wife who said he abused her. And apparently was also questioning his own sexuality. Living with him must have been hell.

IT'S WEIRD WALKING WITHOUT A CANE

Or crutch (es)

THE ORLANDO SHOOTINGS WERE ONE WEEK AGO TODAY

Like all those who have experienced a traumatic event, for the victims, survivors, their family and friends there will a "before" and "after," just as for me there was a before/after the robbery, breaking my foot, the surgery...

TODAY IS WORLD SICKLE CELL DAY

I think I've only met one or two sickle cell patients in my life. The prognosis is a lot better than it was when I was a kid: http://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/outlook/20160619/world-sickle-cell-day-i-came-home-die

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT IN ADAMS MORGAN

On nights like this I realize how lucky I am to live here.  And hope not to have to move.

SILENCE IS GOLDEN?

Some guy is belching behind me in the library. Repeatedly. And there are people making all kinds of foul coughs. I wonder how much healthier a library is than a hospital.

SUCH A LOVELY PLACE, STARBUCKS IN YOUR FACE

Saw this on the Georgetown campus:

I'm such a ditz I thought it said "Hotel California."

On the bright side, I don't have to see the cardiologist for the next six months.

THE MOST UNPOPULAR COMMANDMENT

The Most Unpopular Commandment: Of all Jesus commandments, there is one that is more unpopular than any other. It’s the one commandment where I’ve heard people say that Jesus didn’t really mean what he said. I’ve even heard more excuses for this sin than for sins of the flesh. What is this sin? The sin of rash judgment of …

I have issues with this:

1) Why should we be overly harsh with ourselves?

2) It seems when I give peeps the benefit of a doubt I get screwed.

I am now only two pounds overweight.

GREAT MOMENTS IN TRANSPORTATION

I hail a cab on Columbia Road, things are fine until we get within a couple blocks of the National Cathedral and we see a deer. Fortunately we don’t hit it but a couple blocks later the cabby says “Jesus Christ!” and I think we’re about to have an accident. He says “I forgot to set the meter.” I say “no problem” and he sez “you’re paying cash, right?” He tells me he can’t take my credit card and I say “you have two choices—you take me to Wells Fargo and we get there quicker but I deduct the $3.00 foreign ATM fee from your fare or you take me to Suntrust and it takes longer but you get more money. And I’m not paying for the extra time it takes to go to the bank.”

He agrees to the second. Fortunately I slept better than usual last night so we don’t arrive late

not angry but hurt

Can I Pray When I Am Angry with God?: “I wish I could pray. But I’m so angry with God that he would probably strike me dead if I told him how I felt,” people often share with me while experiencing personal or family crisis. As a recent graduate in pastoral theology, and a 15-year veteran of the Church’s tribunal ministry, I have encountered …

COMING BACK BUG

“Some Africans believe that if your baby dies, you must bury it far away from your house, with proper magic and incantations and gifts for the g-ds, so that the baby does not come back, time after time, and plant itself inside your womb only to die a short time after birth”

Alexandra Fuller

COUNTING OUR BLESSINGS (AND WHERE THEY COME FROM)

A Glimmer of Hope in a Boy’s Death: June 5, 2016 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time First Reading: 1 Kings 17:17-24 http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/060516.cfm This morning I walked through a cemetery, past the graves of several children. TODAY IS THE FEAST OF ST. BONIFACE

St. Boniface (Bishop and Martyr): The missionary bishop and martyr St. Boniface (672?-754) has been called the “Apostle to the Germans.” He was born in England and given the name Wynfrith, which he later changed to Boniface. Until about the age of forty, he was a Benedictine monk, devoted primarily to scholarship; then, in 718, Boniface permanently left England and …

BAR STOOL

A woman reportedly lost control of her bowels at a Georgetown
restaurant. Evidently that same evening a woman identifying herself as
“Emma C” says she was overcharged and trashed the place on Yelp. A
manager identified as “Liz S” replied in kind:

http://www.statter911.com/2016/05/28/poop-flies-yelp-battle-sometimes-customer-isnt-always-right

Apparently it was a case of wires crossed and the owner has apologized
to Emma: http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/food/article/20781785/nicks-riverside-grill-admits-to-wrongly-accusing-yelper-of-pooping-her-pants

This story has gone viral and made all the way across the pond. A lot
of lessons to be learned from this—I’m sure Emma and Liz will both
think before shooting off their mouths (mouses?)

It brings back memories learned from the nuns in elementary and high
school about the danger of spreading falsehoods and damaging other
people’s reputations. And what they teach you in journalism school—
the deadliest sin is a fact error. That and “always find the
attribution.” It helps if you can back up your story…

MAKING IT A TV AND TEA MARATHON

Have been watching Law And Order SVU. Man, there are some sick freaks out there.

PLEASE KEEP MY DAD'S TWIN SISTER, AUNT MARGIE, AND HER CHILDREN IN YOUR PRAYERS

Her oldest son, my cousin Joseph Decker, died last night. Our grandparents had 16 grandchildren including me. Joe and our cousin, Dicky Meldrum were the two oldest of our generation. Dicky died when I was about two or three. There are 14 of us left. My other grandparents had seven grandchildren. There are four of us left.

June is bustin' out all over.
