Been diagnosed with walking pneumonia.

THE HOLIDAY POLICE

Why is there so much anger and bitterness surrounding holidays or rather holiday greetings? Maybe there has always been but in the past people didn't blog, post or tweet about it. If you don't celebrate it, fine, don't, but then just shut up about it.

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF THE VISITATION

Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary: Following the Annunciation in which the angel Gabriel came to Mary and pronounced she would become the mother of our Lord, Mary traveled from Galilee to Judea to visit her cousin Elizabeth, an elderly woman, who after a lifetime with a barren womb had conceived a child. Elizabeth, whose pregnancy also followed a message from …

IMO IT'S NOT TRANSGENDER PEOPLE WE NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IN PUBLIC RESTROOMS

It's bratty kids, not sure about their sexual proclivities. Most of the trans people I have known were suffering their own private hell and not interested in molesting peeps in bathrooms, they only wanted to be left alone. I have never been raped, thank G-d, but the most unsavoury encouters I had were with heterosexual men. None of these encounters took place in a bathroom.

I AM AN AWFUL PERSON BECAUSE I THINK THE ROLLING THUNDER ARE A PAIN IN MY ASS, AND PROBABLY OTHER PEOPLE'S, TOO?

They tie up traffic from Friday through Monday, make a horrible racket and if they schedule interviews they don't show up for them.

STUPID AUTOCORRECT

I tried to type "fuck you" and it made it "duck you." Like when I was in grad school and it made "bullshit" into "belched."

TODAY IS THE FEAST OF ST. RITA--PATRONESS OF THE IMPOSSIBLE:

St. Rita of Cascia: In 1381, St. Rita was born in Spoleto, Italy, to elderly parents who were such examples of Christian charity that they were known as “Peacemakers of Jesus Christ.” As devout as they were, however, they seem to have been somewhat misguided when they insisted on St. Rita’s marriage, at the age of 12, to a …

WE SING TO YOU O'CONNELL HIGH

We sing your praises to the sky
Your colours blue and grey we’ll cheer
We’ll keep your standards ever dear

Chorus:

O’Connell High School, praise to your name
In every student’s heart you’ve won your lasting fame
Through all the years to come
Lighting the way
O’Connell High traditions with us will stay

O’Connell sportsmanship will shine
O’Connell loyalty is fine
No matter what the game or test
O’Connell spirit is the best

Chorus:

O’Connell High School, praise to your name
In every student’s heart you’ve won your lasting fame
Through all the years to come
Lighting the way
O’Connell High traditions with us will stay

The O’Connell High School song, author unknown to me (lyrics as I remember them)

The O’Connell High School Fight Song:

O’Connell High, we’re loyal
O’Connell High, we’re true
O’Connell High ,we love you
And your colours grey and blue
Fight, fight, fight!

O’Connell High, we love you
Everybody knows we do
So we’ll fight, fight, fight
With all our might
O’Connell, for you.

Again, author unknown to me. One of my girlfriends said “your dreary colours grey and blue.”

The Immaculata University song:

High reared upon thy noble hill
Immaculata!
Could I to thee bring aught of ill
Immaculata!
Thy colors shining white and blue
To them unshaken I’ll be true;
Nor coward faithless to thy trust
Low drag them soiled in the dust,
Immaculata!
Thy halo rich in golden light,
Immaculata!
Cheers on the traveler of the night
Immaculata!
Thy mem’ry fair as any star
When from thy gates I’ve wandered far
Let be a beacon ever bright
To guide my footsteps in the night,
Immaculata!

Words: Reverend Anthony J. FIynn, PhD. Music: Sister Immaculee, I.H.M.

And the unofficial St. James school song:
Give a cheer, give a cheer
For the men who drink the beer
In the cellar of good old St. James
They’re so brave, they’re so bold
All the liquor they can hold
In the cellar of good old St. James
For it’s run, run, run
I think I hear a nun
Grab all the beer that you can hold
If a nun should appear
Say Sister have a beer
In the cellar of good old St. James
Author unknown to me

But seriously, all jokes aside, I am touched by the kindness and generosity shown by my classmates from elementary through undergraduate school. The Sisters Servants of IHM taught us well.

A GUY ON THE TRAIN WAS WEARING SOME COLOGNE I REALLY LIKED.

I asked what it was and he said "China Musk." I thought he said "China Bus."

If someone smells good I feel as though I could follow them all day. I felt that way about two women I worked with. China Musk is unisex. A guy in Columbia heights gave me a good deal on a bottle. I can still smell it on my jacket.

THE RAPTURE WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE PLACE ON THIS DAY FIVE YEARS AGO.

During my shift yet. Yet I'm still here. And you are too, if you are reading this.

INTERESTING MORNING

Got messages from one drunk, one foot fetishist and a bunch of probable scammers.

I wonder if other Armenians are embarrassed by the Kardashians.

If my doctor tells me I'm going deaf the first thing I'll do is get a bird.

ONE OF THE MOST LUCID THINGS I'VE SEEN ON FACEBOOK IN A WHILE

"Just some random thoughts about facebook and diversity of opinions. I belong to any number of discussion groups on facebook, one in particular is dedicated to exploring most any issue from all sides. In such a forum it is expected that personal beliefs and views are challenged with counter evidence, opinion, theory, etc.
All of us have diverse personal opinions and beliefs, it is part of our individuality and makes the world an exciting and interesting place. And all of us are fully entitled to our own personal opinions and beliefs. When I read through my facebook newsfeed, I see countless opinions, memes, cartoons, etc. expressing views different than my own - everything from politics to religion to dietary habits to general outlook on life. I respect everyone's right to have views different from mine. Only in groups dedicated to exploring issues do I think it is appropriate to challenge anyone's views. That's fair, and those who belong expect this.
But when I read comments from someone who has views different than mine, and those views are expressed on their own home page, I would no more dream of jumping in and challenging those views than I would if I were to say overhear a conversation at a supermarket and jump in even if I knew the person talking. I most assuredly do not think I have all the right answers any more than anyone else. And I most assuredly do not "live to challenge." I simply make a mental note of the differences, sort of assemble a group of those holding views similar to mine, and those who probably don't, but either way I move on!
It always amazes me the sheer number of people on facebook who do seem to live for challenge. Every time I post something on my home page, I can almost count on a small group of people trying to argue with me about my own beliefs!
Guess what? It's a waste of your time and mine. You are most assuredly not going to change my mind, and I have no interest whatsoever in changing yours. So please, have some mutual respect. When I post something you agree with, give me a thumbs up. If you disagree, do consider simply shrugging your shoulders (hey we're not all as enlightened as you), and move on!
Amen."

ALMOST STOPPED PRAYING

But didn't.

CATCHING FIRE

Apparently the title for the new Metro movie. T suggest Ring of Fire as their theme song.

A Channel Four reporter asked to interview me. Fortunately I had just had a makeover at Macy's: http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Metro-Trains-to-Stop-at-Midnight-Every-Day-379401331.html

GOT FORECLOSED ON

A Friday the 13th I'll never forget.

50 SECRETS NURSES WISH THEY COULD TELL YOU

50 Secrets Nurses Wish They Could Tell You: What really happens in the bedrooms and halls of our hospitals? Find out from the experts. Here, nurses shed light on the secrets only a nurse would know.

There should also be 50 not-so-secret things I wish I could tell doctors and nurses.

Penguins beat the Washington Capitals 4-3.

Is it my imagination or are people carrying more and more stuff with them on the bus/train?

How do you tell a guy he looks like Jack Nance?

LIFE'S LITTLE IRONIES

Weird old lady next to me at the library wipes down everything in sight. I call her a germaphobe and she says "just plain dirt." Then she puts her dirty-looking shopping bags on the tabletop next to me.

A couple years ago a woman in the DMV restroom was making a very big show out of washing her hands, taking a paper towel and using it on everything she touched. Then she let it fall onto  the floor without picking it up. I didn't pick it up for her, either.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

It was a good day to stay home

Dude tried to hijack a U6 bus in NE, pedestrian struck and killed as a result. Just the other night I asked a bus driver if he was scared to drive with just me in the bus: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dr-gridlock/wp/2016/05/03/bus-said-to-be-hijacked-in-northeast-washington

Thoughts on the Correspondents Dinner

IN ADDITION TO BEING MAY DAY TODAY IS ALSO THE FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER:

St. Joseph the Worker: May 1, or “May Day,” was celebrated throughout the Communist world as a way of supposedly honoring the role and importance of laborers in Marxist countries. The Communist conception of work as almost an end in itself was, of course, very different from the Christian understanding, and in 1955, to highlight this difference, Pope Pius …

Happy May Day!
