LOVELIEST OF TREES

"The Cherry Now"

A.E Housman

Cherry Blossom Festival officials say the blooms are at their peak. Which could explain my rotten sore throat and burning nose.

Woke up with a bad sore throat this morning. Did not have the stomach for Shamu's broccoli-tuna-cauliflower-perfume combo.

All day long I have been getting e-mails from perverts. And perverts seem to be posting a lot on Craigslist.

RUBBING PEOPLE THE WRONG WAY II

Another CL posting about less-than-desireable clients (usually men). These are the kind who e-mail me asking questions like "are you a slim woman?" and "can you send me a picture of yourself? After all, you'll be touching my body."
RUBBING PEOPLE THE WRONG WAY

This Craigslist posting won't make points with Indian clients.
MASON WINS

George Mason beat U-Conn 86-84 at the Verizon Center. The only good thing about the Hoyas losing was that they lost to the Gators. It shows the University of Florida was good for something. It certainly wasn't for gettting a job or a husband.

TIRED

I really should be in bed. I am getting so tired I can't see straight. The cop who shot Salvatore Culosi was cleared because it was determined he was so tired he didn't know what he was doing. Investigators also say the guy who caused the Metro train wreck right after Dad died was asleep at the wheel.

PEPPERS FOR PIPPIN

Bought parsley for the pigs. About a year ago I told a co-worker I was going to buy peppers for my beloved Pippin and it reminded me of a story I read in second grade. It was about a boy named Paddy who had a pear tree in his yard. He sold them to his neighbor who had a big green parrot named "Pauline" who liked to eat green pears. The story was called "Pears for Pauline." There sure were a lot of "P's" in that story.

He couldn't find a picture of the cough syrup bottle.

I admit I am lousy when it comes to inserting graphics. Or maybe we can blame it on Blogger.

IRISH JOKE

Young O'Donnell says "forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. I blew up 30 miles of British railroad."

The priest says "for penance do the stations."

Years ago I got the stations for penance. I forget what I did.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Go ahead and eat meat. About one-third of US Catholic Bishops have given us a dispensation in honour of the day. Check local listings to see if you qualify.

MIKE WALLACE TO RETIRE

CBS reports Mike Wallace is retiring from 60 Minutes.
AUS DEM LEBEN EINES TAUGENICHTS

Wohin ich geh und schaue,
In Feld und Wald und Tal,
Vom Berg hinab in die Aue:
Vielschöne, hohe Fraue,
Grüß ich dich tausendmal.
In meinem Garten find ich
Viel Blumen, schön und fein,
Viel Kränze wohl draus wind ich
Und tausend Gedanken bind ich
Und Grüße mit darein.
Ihr darf ich keinen reichen,

Sie ist zu hoch und schön,
Die müssen alle verbleichen,
Die Liebe nur ohnegleichen
Bleibt ewig im Herzen stehn.
Ich schein wohl froher Dinge

Und schaffe auf und ab,
Und ob das Herz zerspringe,
Ich grabe fort und singe
Und grab mir bald mein Grab.

RCIA

Met a guy who's in RCIA. I can't imagine myself sponsoring anyone. I would if asked, but I'd never volunteer -- I don't think of myself as a good enough Catholic. Personally I'm relieved that no one has left the church because of me.

MILOSEVIC DEAD

CELESTE CLARK REMEMBERED

Funeral services for Mix 107's Celeste Clark are in Leesburg tomorrow. There have been way too many deaths recently. As Charley Brown says, "there are too many goodbye's. We need more hello's." The problem is, we don't always remember when someone important enters our lifes, but we usually notice when they leave. Usually.

Funny, I am re-living my father's, grandmother's and even Lightning's deaths all over.

FIRST FRIDAY

Today is the first Friday in March and the first Friday of Lent. Naturally I am craving anything with meat in it -- a hot dog, a burrito, an Egg McMuffin. Shamu heated up some cauliflower, which stank to high heaven. When I commented on it she asked innocently "do it stink?" I did not get a master's degree to have to deal with people like this.

Actually Lent lasts more than 40 days but I digress. Again I gave up booze this year. Unfortunately I worked Mardi Gras night, so my last drink was Monday, I guess.
